The Football Association of Singapore has announced its 23-player roster for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Qualifiers, set to take place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Following the withdrawal of the 2 out of 4 Group C teams, DPR Korea and Iraq, the 130th-ranked Singapore Lionesses will be facing off against 95th-ranked Indonesia over 2 matches in a home and away format on 24 and 27 September 2021.

Featuring 6 debutants in the squad - Lila Tan, Sara Merican, Winette Lim, Nicole Lim, Khairunnisa Khairol Anwar and Nurhidayu Naszri, the Singapore Lionesses squad blends youth and experience with an average squad age of 23.

“This team was formed with the perspective of planning for the future in mind. There is a good mixture of fresh faces and seasoned veterans that we are tapping on, as we continue our efforts to develop the standard of women’s football in Singapore and advance our efforts in competing at the regional stage.” said Singapore Women’s National Team Coach Stephen Ng.

33-year old Captain Ernie Sulastri Sontaril is the most senior player on the roster, while 16-year old forward Danelle Tan is the youngest.

Out of the 6 debutants, Nicole Lim, Khairunnisa Khairol Anwar and Nurhidayu Naszri have recently stepped up from the U-19 National Team squad. The latter defensive duos have been progressing through the National Youth pipeline since they were 12 years old.

Notably, Australia-based defenders Priscilla Tan and Suria Priya, US-based striker Putri Nur Syaliza, and Japan-based defender Siti Rosnani Azman are missing from the roster due to travel challenges.

“Although we wish that our fellow Lionesses abroad could join us as we contest for qualification, their absence will not dampen the team’s spirits. We are motivated and keen on showcasing our best, after almost two years without competition. The squad has a great mix of talent and we are determined to play to our strengths and get the job done.” said Captain Ernie.

Let's wish our Lionesses the best as they ramp up preparations ahead of their departure on 16 September, next Thursday. 💪
